Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association (H.C.F.A.) is one of the oldest Greek patient associations in Greece, established at 1983 by parents of children suffering from Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The association is non-profit, is based in Athens and is a member and representative of Greece in the international organisations Cystic Fibrosis Worldwide (CFW), Cystic Fibrosis Europe (CFE), Eurordis (Rare Diseases Europe), ERS (European Respiratory Society), ELF (European Lung Foundation), European Transplant Patient Organizations (ESOT-ETPO). During its 39 years history, HCFA has managed to change Cystic Fibrosis in Greece, bringing together CF patients all over Greece and medical professionals, improving the quality of life for patients, promoting high quality research, education and care and raising public awareness.
The objectives of HCFA are:
a) To defend in any legal way the rights of people suffering from Cystic Fibrosis in Greece.
b) To create the necessary conditions in hospitals, where patients with Cystic Fibrosis are monitored.
c) To answer any issues arising concerning the hospitalisation of patients, treatments, transplantations and social benefits that they are entitled to.
d) To inform the public about disease’s prevention and treatments and the nature of the disease.
e) To organise conferences, meetings, cultural events through its online platform on Cystic Fibrosis.
e) To participate in national and international Cystic Fibrosis conferences, representing Greece in international partnerships.
HCFA BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2022
The Board of Directors of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association (HCFA) consists exclusively of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients and parents of CF children, monitored in different CF Centers all over Greece, in order to have nationwide representation of CF patients all over the country ensuring a united and multilateral representation of Greek CF patients.
The BOD is in close collaboration with all specialized CF physicians treating patients throughout Greece, who form HCFA’s Scientific Committee, established in 2013 for providing expert scientific advice to HCFA.
