45th European Cystic Fibrosis Congress in Rotterdam
The General Secretary of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, Konstantina Giannaki, as a representative of the Cystic Fibrosis patients of our country, attended this year in person from the 1st day of the annual General Assembly of the European Cystic Fibrosis Association CF Europe and the ECFS Scientific Conference that took place from 7 to 11 June in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, representing once again the Greek patients.
CF EUROPE Annual Meeting
During the Annual General Meeting of the European Organization, the General Secretary Konstantina Giannaki talked with the President of CF Europe Jacquelien Noordhoek and the representatives of the European countries, exchanging experiences, opinions and good practices, while she informed the European community about the developments in Cystic Fibrosis in Greece, the planned actions of the Association, strengthening the cooperation relations between Greece and the European countries. He also talked with representatives of Vertex, a company that introduces the innovative CFTR Modulators treatments in our country.
During the Assembly, 2 workshops on fundraising and Real World Data (RWD) were held, where good practices and know-how were exchanged, aiming at more effective interventions through collaborations. At the same time, the actions and support activities of CF Europe and European associations towards war-affected CF patients in Ukraine in need were discussed.
Our representative also followed the results and progress of the HIT-CF research project, which develops treatments for patients with rare cystic fibrosis mutations, as well as the results of CF Europe’s Access2Meds research on access to medicines and care for CF patients in different countries of Europe, in which our country participated.
ECFS Scientific Conference
After the conclusion of the CF Europe Assembly, our representative Konstantina Giannaki attended the 45th medical conference of the CF scientific community ECFS, held at the Rotterdam Ahoy conference centre. The program of the scientific conference included numerous presentations and workshops on a variety of topics, such as the effectiveness of innovative CFTR Modulators therapies, lung transplantation, telemedicine in K.I., nutrition, newer physiotherapy techniques, the value of exercise, the psychological parameters of the disease, the effect of covid-19 on CF patients, developments in gene therapy research, changes in the epidemiology of the disease, and the latest data on patient fertility and pregnancy in female CF patients.

Konstantina Giannaki congratulated the former President of the ECFS scientific community, Prof. Kris De Boeck, on receiving the ECFS Award for her outstanding contribution to the understanding of Cystic Fibrosis, as well as to the treatment and care of patients during her 30 years of involvement with the disease at the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Belgium.
The Director of the Department of C.F. of the Hippocrates Hospital of Thessaloniki, Mrs.Hatziagorou Elpida, presented at the scientific conference the changes in the epidemiology of patients with Cystic Fibrosis based on the data of the European C.I. Registry (ECFSPR).
