We are pleased to inform you that the position for a permanent paediatric attending physician with experience in Cystic Fibrosis has been advertised for the Cystic Fibrosis Centre at the General Hospital Hippokratio, so that the needs of our paediatric patients in Northern Greece can be adequately covered.
We would like to thank the Minister of Health, Mr. Thanos Plevris, Ms. Minister of Health Mrs. Mina Gaga-Mina Gaga and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health Mr. Ioannis Kotsiopoulos, who are always on the side of the Cystic Fibrosis patients. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the physician in charge of the C.I. Center of Hippokratio, Mrs. Elpida Hatziagorou for her continuous efforts for the strengthening and development of the Center and the support of our patients, as well as to the Governor of the 4th Medical Center Mr. Tsalikakis Dimitrios, the Governor of Hippokratio Mr. Nikolaos Antonakis and the Deputy Governors of the C.I. Center of Hippokratio Mr. Nikolaos Antonakis. Mr. Nikolos Antonio Antoniouk, the Deputy Governors of the Ippokratiki Hospital, Mr. Nikolay Tarasidis George and Mrs. Santrina Titopoulou for their support and love for the patients with Cystic Fibrosis.
Due to the complex clinical picture and the serious complications that patients with Cystic Fibrosis experience, treatment requires regular attendance at organized Cystic Fibrosis Centers with a team consisting of a Cystic Fibrosis specialist (pediatric pulmonologist or adult pulmonologist), a nurse and a physiotherapist, who collaborate with other specialties. The Cystic Fibrosis Centre of the 3rd Paediatric Clinic of the General Hospital of Hippokratheion is the Reference Centre in Greece for the investigation, monitoring and treatment of children with Cystic Fibrosis, where about 150 children from all over Northern Greece, but also from regions of the rest of Greece are monitored. At the same time, in addition to the Hippokratio, about 250 children are treated at the Athens Cystic Fibrosis Centre at the Children’s Hospital “Aghia Sophia”, while a small number of paediatric patients are treated in C.I. clinics at the Papageorgiou General Hospital, the University General Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, the University General Hospital of Patras and the Attikon University General Hospital.
The Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association continues to support the specialized Cystic Fibrosis Centers of our country. In cooperation with our doctors, the Scientific Committee and the State, we continue our actions to further strengthen and develop the Centers by staffing them with specialized doctors from other specialties, but also to develop the infrastructure and outpatient clinics, so that all patients with Cystic Fibrosis in our country receive the best possible medical care and specialized monitoring required for the treatment of the disease.
