We are pleased to announce that our Association’s request for the strengthening of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre of the Papanikolaou Hospital of Thessaloniki with a second permanent pulmonologist has been met, so that all of our adult patients from all over Northern Greece, from Evros to Epirus, can be served. The decision to advertise the recruitment of a pulmonologist B’ with experience in Cystic Fibrosis for the Papanikolaou Hospital was posted just yesterday on Diavgeia.
This is the result of the continuous efforts of our Association in cooperation with our members from Thessaloniki, the responsible doctor of the Centre, Mrs.Manika Katerina and the Administration of Papanikolaou, but also of our long-standing cooperation with the Ministry of Health, following the commitments of the Deputy Minister of Health, Mrs. In addition to the commitment of the Minister of Health, Mrs. Gaga Mina and the Minister of Health, Mr. Plevris Athanasios, to strengthen the adult CF units of our country.
As we know, in our country there are only 2 specialized Cystic Fibrosis Centres for adults, which serve all adult patients in our country. Apart from the Adult Centre in Papanikolaou, the vast majority of 80% of our adult patients are treated in the Athens CF Unit in Sismanoglio, by the only one responsible specialist pulmonologist, Mrs Diamantea Filia, who serves about 300 patients. After the completion of the procedures for the recruitment of the second pneumonologist, Ms. Christakakakou Athina, in the C.I. Unit of Sismanoglio 3 months ago, our Association has requested the hospital’s administration to immediately integrate the new doctor in our Unit and to start her training immediately, so that our patients can be served in time.
We will keep you informed of the latest news at our next online coffee break, for which a date and time will be announced soon.
Stay tuned!
