A scheduled meeting with the President of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, Professor Mr. Boleti Ioannis, was held by the representatives of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, Anna Spinou (President), Konstantina Giannaki (Secretary General), Maro Gounari (General Manager), on Friday 12 May 2023, at the offices of the President at Onassis.
After discussing with Mr. Boleti the progress and development of the national lung transplantation program, the representatives of our Association raised with the President in detail all the issues concerning the timely access to lung transplantation for potential patients with Cystic Fibrosis and their timely inclusion in the waiting list, as well as the issues concerning the conditions of monitoring and care for our already transplanted patients.
Transplantation is the only survival option for Cystic Fibrosis patients in the final stages of respiratory failure, and adequate follow-up is very important for the survival of transplanted patients. The Panhellenic Association of Cystic Fibrosis continues its effective interventions in cooperation with the institutions and the State, making every effort to enhance lung transplants and raise public awareness of organ donation.
We continue to support the right to a 2nd chance at life of Cystic Fibrosis patients in end-stage respiratory failure, and to support the right of all our transplant patients to appropriate and adequate follow-up based on European standards.
