CF Centers Support

Patients with Cystic Fibrosis need regular monitoring in specialized Cystic Fibrosis Units, receiving specialized medical care and hospitalization when required. The Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, to ensure the best possible conditions of supervision and hospitalization, has contributed to the development of specialized centers and medical care units for patients and practically supports the Centers in continuous cooperation with the responsible doctors and their staff.
Cystic Fibrosis Unit for Adults at Sismanoglio Hospital

The Association has actively contributed to creating and organizing the largest CF Unit for adults in the country at the “Sismanoglio” Hospital, which monitors approximately 300 patients with Cystic Fibrosis, i.e., 80% of the country’s adult patients.
In 2013, after constant pressure from the Association and in cooperation with the Administration and the competent bodies, an independent ward for patients with Cystic Fibrosis was created with eleven wards, permanent nursing staff, a secretariat, doctors’ offices, warehouse. Furthermore, the Association gathered donations and installed small single-door refrigerators, flat-screen TVs, and stationary bicycles to facilitate the physical exercise of the patients.
At the same time, and with no cost to the Greek state, the Association took the initiative to connect the “Sismanoglio” Hospital and the specialized Cystic Fibrosis Unit of the Southampton hospital, England, to exchange best practices and training methods.
The Association continues to support the Unit with interventions for its staffing and development in infrastructure and equipment.
Cystic Fibrosis Center for Adults “Papanikolaou" Hospital

The Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center at the “Papanikolaou” Hospital in Thessaloniki monitors more than 60 adult patients with Cystic Fibrosis from all over Northern Greece.
The Association has steadily supported the smooth operation and the official recognition of the unit as a specialized Cystic Fibrosis Center for adults. In 2017 the Association covered the payroll costs of the part-time secretariat.
This intervention was the first of its kind and contributed to improving the health care services provided to adult patients, considering that “Papanikolou” Hospital decongests the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit of Sismanoglio, which monitors the vast majority of the country’s patients.
At the same time, the Association covers telephone expenses and internet costs in the Center’s wards so that patients can maintain uninterrupted communication with relatives and friends during their hospitalization. Finally, the Association stays committed to improving the Unit regarding human recourses and supporting its further development.
Cystic Fibrosis Unit, "Hippokratio" Hospital

The Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association has fought for the official recognition of the Children’s Cystic Fibrosis Unit at the Thessaloniki “HIppokrateio” Hospital. The specific unit is the second organized monitoring department for children with Cystic Fibrosis in Greece, and it monitors more than 100 children with Cystic Fibrosis from Northern Greece.
Cystic Fibrosis Unit for Children, Agia Sofia Children's Hospital

Since its founding, the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association has continuously supported the CF Department at the “Agia Sophia” Children’s Hospital, the largest pediatric Cystic Fibrosis center in Greece, which monitors more than 300 children.
From the beginning of the Unit’s operation, the Association has made continuous interventions for staffing the Department with specialized medical personnel and covering needs in equipment (medical technological devices, etc.).
